In a milestone moment for the 3D printing community, Prusa's Printables platform has reported that PETG has officially overtaken PLA as the most-used filament material. The shift reflects a broader trend toward functional prints over decorative ones.

PETG offers better heat resistance, improved layer adhesion, and greater durability than PLA while remaining easy to print. New fast-print PETG formulations from brands like Polymaker and eSUN have made the material nearly as forgiving as PLA for beginners.

The data comes from Printables' material tagging system, which tracks what filament makers use when uploading their designs. PLA still leads in total uploads historically, but PETG is now used in the majority of new functional parts.
