Every maker encounters print failures. Here are the five most common problems and their proven solutions.
1. Layer Shifting
Usually caused by loose belts or the nozzle hitting the print. Fix: tighten your belts, enable Z-hop, and reduce travel speed by 20%.
2. Stringing
Thin wisps of filament between travel moves. Fix: increase retraction distance (try 0.5mm increments), enable combing, and lower nozzle temperature by 5°C.
3. Warping
Print corners lifting off the bed. Fix: use a brim, clean the bed with IPA, and ensure the first layer is properly squished. For ABS, an enclosed chamber is essential.
4. Under-Extrusion
Weak prints with visible gaps. Fix: check for partial clogs, increase flow rate by 5%, and verify your e-steps are calibrated.
5. Elephant's Foot
First layer bulging outward. Fix: reduce first layer flow by 5%, lower bed temperature by 5°C, and add a small chamfer to the bottom of your model.
